Another KJV-only brainstorm… but now it’s badgers 🦡

The infamous Jack McElroy published another KJV-only brainstorm to his Facebook page (see above) . 🙄 Thos time he claims “badger skins” is the only right translation of Numbers 4:10. Why? Because it’s what the KJV says, of course.

Sadly, Jack has a solid reputation as a goldmine of KJV-only misinformation. Let’s check the available information for ourselves rather than rely on an individual whom we all know is pushing an agenda that encourages its adherents to never ask questions.

Here’s what the passage looked like in English before and after 1611.

📜Wycliffe: and upon all these things they shall put a covering of jacinthine skins, and they shall bring, or lead, in the bearing staves.

📜Coverdale: and aboute all this shal they put a couerynge of doo skynnes, and put it vpon staues.

📜Matthew’s: & shal put vpon her & vpon all her instrumentes, a coueryng of taxus skynnes, and put it vpon staues.

📜Great Bible: & they shall put both it, and all the vessell therof within a couerynge of taxus skynnes, & put it vpon a barre.

📜Geneva: So they shall put it, and all the instruments thereof in a couering of badgers skinnes, and put it vpon the barres.

📜Bishop’s: And they shall put both it and all the vessels thereof, within a coueryng of Badgers skinnes, and put it vpon a barre

📖Webster’s: And they shall put it, and all its vessels, within a covering of badgers’ skins, and shall put it upon a bar.

📖Julia E. Smith Translation 1876: And they gave it and all its vessels into a covering of tahash skins, and they gave upon the bar.

📖Jay P. Green’s Literal Translation 1993: And they shall put it and all its vessels into a covering of dugong skin, and shall put it on the bar.

And all of these Bibles were based on the TR and Masoritic Text.

The Talmud (representing Classical rabbinic tradition) claims “the tachash was a miraculous, multicolored, single-horned kosher animal that existed only during the time of Moses and was provided specifically for the wilderness sanctuary.” (Google summary) Modern Jews hold that it was made from the skins of kosher animals treated with oil to make them waterproof, not that it was from a specific species. It looks like “fine, durable, waterproof leather” is the preferred translation.

Notice all this graphic gives is “stick with a translation 400 years out of date”, it doesn’t propose a correct translation of an obviously difficult translation.

Jack McElroy has let his followers down again, but it props up their paradigm so they don’t even realize it. KJV-onlyists are trained daily to react to confirmation bias and never question the narrative they are handed by KJV-only gatekeepers.
