Codex Sinaiticus

The Codex Sinaiticus is revered as the oldest bible in the world. It has played a major role in shaping the text of the New Testament accepted as the most reliable by Christians today. By modern scholars it is considered priceless! But today the status quo is being challenged.

In recent years, some KJV-only and Textus Receptus-only advocates have claimed it was a forgery concocted in the late 1800s to to deceive the the christian world into doubting the text of the King James Bible. Upon further investigation, evidence has surfaced that an even deeper conspiracy may be at work and that the manuscript may be fairly old, but nonetheless completely worthless. Needless to say, the codex has become a very controversial topic!

What is the ultimate answer? Is it priceless, a fake, or worthless? We will do our best to give all the information we have available so that you may develop an informed opinion.

Forgery, Conspiracy, or Psyop?

Did Simonides forge Codex Sinaiticus, is it a 3rd-century manuscript of great value, or is it a worthless codex from the 6th century? Did Simonidies accuse a Protestant missionary of midnight org**s and why? Did an earthquake confirm Siniticus’s antiquity? Did the forgery controversy led to the prominence of a heretical codex that would have otherwise been ignored? What will the modern forgery controversy lead us to? Are KJV-only believers and researchers being double-crossed?

Is “the world’s oldest Bible” as old as the official narrative claims, or is it a 19th-century manuscript made by a teenager in Greece? Did this teenager grow up to expose a vast conspiracy behind Western Protestantism? Or was this teenager to become one of the most devious conspirators Christainity has ever faced? Only time and a thorough chemical test of Codex Sinaiticus will tell.

I have accepted the idea that Sinaiticus is a 19th-Century production for several years. However, after listening to the evidence presented by Bryan Ross, I do not know what to expect. We deeply appreciate the work of Bill Cooper, David Sorenson (whom seems to have largely barrowed from Cooper), Chris Pinto, David Danials, Bryan Ross, Kevin McGrane, and Elijah Hixson. However, I do not know what to think or who to agree with.

Officially the “Oldest and Best”

“Codex Sinaiticus, the earliest known manuscript of the Christian Bible, compiled in the 4th century ce. In 1844, 43 leaves of a 4th-century biblical codex (a collection of single pages bound together along one side) were discovered at St. Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai (hence the name Sinaiticus).” – Codex Sinaiticus, Britannica

“On 13 September 1862, in an article of The Guardian, he [Simonides] claimed that he is the real author of the Codex Sinaiticus and that he wrote it in 1839. According to him it was “the one poor work of his youth”. According to Simonides, he visited Sinai in 1852 and saw the codex. Henry Bradshaw, a scholar, didn’t believe his claims….Also, in many other complicated questions he had his own, usually controversial, point of view, but after ascribing the authorship of the Codex Sinaiticus to himself, the rest of his credibility was destroyed by the British press.” Textus Receptus, Constantine Simonides

The 19th-Century Forgery Theory

Rescued from the furnace of a chilly monistary, sections of Codex Sinaiticus were wisked (or more likely stollen) from St. Cathren’s monistary by Constantine Tischendorf. Shortly after Tischendorf and his discovery were thrust into the limelight, a Greek forger claimed to have written the “ancient” book himself as a young man. A battle of tall tales, fake proof, and smear campaigns ensued. The Codex would emerge from this controversy as “the world’s oldest Bible” and the most famous Biblical manuscript in the world. Today, King James Bible believers are resurrecting the controversy.

David Daniels

Playlist of short videos exploring the strong possibility that Sinaiticus is a 17th-century manuscript. See more of Daniels’ material in Books and Bonus material below!

In this extensive study, David Daniesls explores the question of the color of the pages of Sinaiticus, what parts of Simonides’s claims can be varified, and proposes a Jesuit conspiracy behind the official acceptance of Sinaiticus’s great age.

Even more of Simonide’s story is described in facinating detail. The verification is tremendous!

I have also shared this with Bryan Ross and am waiting to hear his opionions of it.)

The Worthless 6th Century Manuscript Theory

Bryan Ross (a history teacher, pastor, and KJV-only researcher) presented evidence for the 19th-century forgery of Sinaiticus for years. Bryan’s research is even recommended by Chris Pinto in his response to Kevin McGrane’s critical article. Recently, the evidence presented by McGrane and others has convinced Bryan to backpedal on the issue and argue against the 19th-century forgery theory until his criticisdms and questions are satisfied.

Debate Time

In my opinion, James fails to properly critique the 19th-century forgery view, but more information has come out since this debate which greatly undermines the theory IMHO.
